15. When God Calls

Genesis 6:14-22 “Make yourself an ark …So Noah did this; according to all that God commanded him…”

God still calls people today. He calls some to preach. He calls some to the mission field. He calls some to work with children, and others to work in the marketplace. He calls some to stay where they are planted, and others to pull up roots. He calls some to water and some to harvest. He calls some to witness to the neighbor across the street. To some he is calling you to wake up and get out of bed. If you walk with Jesus expect him to call you to tasks both great and small.

Noah heard the call, “Build an ark.” That is when he could have gotten into trouble. He could have started to plan. Planning is a good thing. If you fail the plan, you may as well plan to fail. Most of us like to plan. We plan surprise parties. We plan what we’re going to wear the next day. We even plan our funerals. God wants us to think ahead. He wants us to plan to spend eternity with him. He wants us to plan and prepare to faithfully run the race set before us.

When God calls us to a task, it is natural to begin planning, but stop. When God calls, the first thing we should do is continue listening. Quite often when God gives us a task, he will also give us a plan. Noah built the ark, but God drew up the blueprints. When you hear God call, keep listening. Ask him to give you the plans to complete it.
