He was a bit of a cynic. Life had been a bit rough.
At an early age he came from a broken home. His dad had left and was gone for many of his early years. His brother, a year younger, had become ill with a brain tumor when he was just entering school. His brother suffered for several years before the tumor was removed. When they took the tumor they took much of his brother as well. His brother who had been his equal was now a special ed. student. He learned to love his brother in a new way just in time to watch him die of an infection related to appendicitis.
He loved to play football, but that was taken away by a concussion that resulted in seizures. He fell in love with his high school sweetheart and was sure that marriage was in the near future. Bad choices were followed by hurts and more hurts. His heart was turned almost to stone. His motto became “Life is rough and then you die.”
He did not die, life went on. He met a girl and they were married. His new bride was from Colorado and she was thrilled to show him the Rockies. He was a cynic. All day long they had been driving through the mountains, and all day long he had been saying, “If you’ve seen one mountain you’ve seen them all.”
As they went through a mountain pass off in the distance it started to rain. The sun was out and a rainbow appeared arched over a small chapel up on the mountainside. You guessed it “If you’ve seen one rainbow you have seen them all.” Almost immediately a double rainbow appeared. He says “If you’ve seen two rainbows then you’ve seen them all.” The third rainbow appeared. What could he say? He did not change over night. He will always be a bit of a cynic. However if you ask him now he says, “Life is sometimes rough, but God is always good.”
You may be a cynic yourself, and think this is just a story. That is why I am including photos of the 3 rainbows. They were taken in 1985 with a cheap 110 film camera. In the photos two of the rainbows show more clearly than the 3rd, but that day all three were very clear.
