J13. Look Changing Salvation

James 1: 22 -24

Becoming a Christian will change the way you look. No, I am not going to harp on dress codes and outward standards. It is not up to me or anyone else to tell a Christian how to dress. The Bible does tell us to be modest in our dress, but defining modest is between God, the Christian, and the culture the Christian lives in. What I am telling you is that becoming a Christian will have an impact upon every aspect of our life including outward appearance. Not all, but some young Christians need to allow God’s Spirit to guide them in their choices of dress. A Christian should not have a closet full of tee shirts covered in ungodly photos, slogans and suggestions. A shirt that Christ would not wear is a shirt a Christian should not wear.

Dress is the least important change in a Christian’s appearance. Becoming a Christian changes the looks and expressions upon our faces. Watch the faces of the world and you will see looks of lust, envy, greed, hatred, anger, and the list goes on. Worldly looks begin to disappear off the faces of Christians. Christians should display the looks of compassion, love, understanding, patience, hope and encouragement and the list goes on. This change in appearance does not happen in the instance of salvation. The changing of our looks is a work in progress. As we listen to the word of truth planted in our lives it will change us, if we obey that word. That change starts on the inside and it does not stop there.

A lost person rescued from a stinking swamp does not turn around and walk back into the swamp. They do not spend the rest of their life walking around in stinking, muck covered clothing. They received first aid, they shower, and they put on clean clothes and walk with a new spring in their step and a look of joy upon their face. Once Christ has rescued us, it will show in the way we look.
