H25. Why Be One?

Hebrews 5:11-12
Immature Christians are not good examples. They are not good examples because the life they live is full of bad acts, bad speech and bad attitudes. I am not saying they do this out of deliberate disobedience. However, as Hebrews points out they have not train themselves to distinguish between good and evil. When you cannot tell the difference between good and evil, by the very nature of life you are bound to commit much evil. Christians should train themselves to tell the difference because we do not want to commit evil even by accident. One of the reasons immature Christians have not grown in in their knowledge of good and evil is because they do not seriously study God’s word. They have not trained themselves. In fact if the pastor’s sermons become too serious and to theological, they complain about them being boring or dry. They want sermons to be entertaining. They want to hear sermons that are full of jokes and funny illustrations. It bothers them if they go home on a Sunday morning and the sermon has made them feel bad about something in their lives. They could grow, but they no longer try to understand what they read or what they hear if it is not elementary. They still like picture books when it comes to the gospel. Because they are still living on milk and not the meat of the gospel, they have not yet learned how to live righteous. They are not right in their relationships. They will lose their tempers and say unkind things. They will gossip and betray confidences. When they became a Christian, they were pardoned for their sins and promised an eternity in heaven. That was good enough for them. They have no desire to become a better person, or to be more Christ-like, especially if it requires an effort. Therefore, I have one question for immature Christians, “If you are the only Christian they know, why would your loved ones want to be a Christian?”
