Romans 8:31-34
A pastor, preaching from Romans asked, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” A new Christian sitting in the back and not knowing it was a rhetorical question, hollered out, “My mother-in-law!”
Some people never forget, never forgive and never miss an opportunity to speak badly of others. Just because we give our life to the Lord and he forgives us, does not mean that everyone else forgives us. Some of us would have to live several lifetimes to outlive our past. We know that God has changed us and we are not the same people we used to be. We also know that some people who knew us back before we were born again are going to take a lot of convincing. The last time I saw one of my old army friends, I was in Bible College. He recognized the change in my life, but he had no personal experience to explain it and he was unable to understand it. He still thought it had to be part of some type of scheme. He did not know God, and could not even consider believing there was a God.
Some people carry a grudge and they have made it their life’s mission to bear witness against those they hate. They do not realize their hate is destroying them, and it is in vain. Paul wants them, and us, to know that on the judgment day their testimony will have no weight. God is the judge and he has given us, His children, a total and complete pardon for all sins. He will allow no one to testify against us. On the Day of Judgment, God will silence every voice that would speak against his children. Christ died in order that we might live, now and continuing until that day, Christ stands at the right hand of God and intercedes on our behalf. If God is for us, who can be against us? It does not matter who is against us. God guarantees our victory.
