Micah 7:11-20
The world believes “might makes right.” That does not mean the mighty and powerful only do what is right, it means they believe having the power to do it, gives you the right to do it. Partially they are correct; God gave humanity freedom, and that includes the right to do wrong.
Micah went to great efforts to convince Israel that the choices they had made were wrong. As long as they were prospering from the wrong choices, they were unwilling to admit their own wickedness. They had chosen to be corrupt, and they believed the prosperity their corruption had brought proved it was the right choice. They continued along their evil path until they ended up in captivity. They had a mission from God, and they failed.
History has seen many kingdoms and nations grow in strength and power. Over time, power corrupts and that corruption leads to the nation’s collapse. Nations that have reached the apex of power, and then entered decline do not reemerge to surpass their previous glory. Micah told Israel that they would be different; they could break the pattern. God would make them better than before; they would extend their boundaries farther, and their people would flow back into Israel. It would happen because they worshiped a Mighty God, and He still had a plan and mission for them.
The nations that had defeated Israel would already be in decline, and those nations would be ashamed and shocked into silence by Israel’s return to power. They would see God being faithful to his people, and pardoning Israel’s sins and transgressions. God’s mercy and compassion would amaze Israel’s enemies and they would want to know and have a relationship with Him. In fear and respect, the nations of the world would turn to God.
God chose Israel and then He chose the church. He did not choose us just to save us; He gave us a mission to be his witnesses. When God makes us better, others see it and want it.
