John 6:8-15 We See Miracles

Any two “yes or no” questions have only four possible answer combinations. This is true for these two questions: “Is Jesus the Son of God?” and “Did Jesus perform a ‘miracle’ (an event or action resulting from divine intervention), to feed the multitude?” The possible answer combinations are (No, No), (No, Yes), (Yes, No) and (Yes, Yes).

(No, No). This would be the answer of an atheist. They would say there is no God or Son of God, therefore there are no miracles. An agnostic would say that he does not know if there is a God, and he does not believe that Jesus is the Son of God. To believe in miracles he would first have to believe in a divine being known as God.

(No, Yes). Members of non-Christian religions often answer this way. The crowd who were fed by Jesus also answered this way. They believe they benefited from a miraculous sign. The power of God worked through Jesus, therefore he was a good man. Though they did not recognize Him as the Son of God; He must be a Prophet. Even his own disciples were still developing an understanding of the deity of Jesus.

(Yes, No). This is a confusing answer to me. Today we have Christians who confess that they believe Jesus is the Son of God. At the same time they have trouble believing in miracles. They look for natural ways to explain things that could only have happened through divine intervention. Either Jesus did something outside of our understanding when He fed the 5000, or John was deceptive in his record of the event.

(Yes, Yes). This is my answer to these questions. Yes, I believe Jesus is the Son of God and I believe he performed miracles. I will go farther, I believe prayer releases the power of God to work in our world. When we pray, our eyes of faith will see the hand of God at work. The world sees chance, coincidence and luck; we see miracles.
