1. God Pulled the Trigger

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (NIV)

I believe the Bible is a book of theology. When I read the bible I do not read it for science, I do not read it for history, and I do not read it for recipes. I read it to learn about God, about man and about the nature of the relationship between God and man. I think many of the problems that people have today with the bible arise from their habit of reading it for the wrong reason.

I believe in science. Science has made life better in many ways. It has improved our standard of living. It has extended our life spans. It has improved our understanding of the world around us. Science has explained much that was once unexplainable. However I do not look to science to explain the spiritual. To understand the spiritual, and to know the nature of God, I look to the Bible.

I believe the first four words of the Bible are the very foundation of all good theology. To believe “In the beginning God” requires me to believe that nothing came before him. I believe that before there was science there was God. Science tells me that in the beginning was a big bang. I’m OK with that. To me it makes little difference if it was a big bang, or little bang. However, because of the Bible I believe that before there was any kind of bang, God pulled the trigger, and that makes all the difference in the world.
